Colonial Past

Yangon still contains remnants of its British colonial past including structures like the Myanmar railway headquarters and the telegraph office. Tiles imported from Manchester in 1906 can still be found in the city’s Gecko Bar.

Places of Worship

When in Myanmar, you must visit the most sacred pagoda in the country which is the Shwedagon Pagoda. Standing at a 110-metres tall and over 2500 years old, the pagoda is said to hold holy relics of Lord Buddha and is particularly breath-taking to visit at sunrise or sunset.

Famous Street Food

The city is dotted with street food vendors who are keen on you trying their dishes and be bold with your choices! It doesn’t hurt to take a risk in when travelling. If in any doubt, ask the vendors themselves for help. If you’re looking for Yangon restaurants you will come across several like Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon for example.

Local Street Market

Visiting these markets is an event of its own as the scene is bursting at the seams with excitement and hubbub. The most famous of these markets is the Bogyoke Aung San Market which has been around for over 70 years.
