Taktshang Goempa Temple or the Tiger’s Nest as it is referred to, is one of the world’s most famous temples and staying at a Bhutan hotel such as Uma Bhutan puts you within easy reach of this ‘must visit’ attraction. Located in the Paro Valley, this Paro hotel is in fact an ideal base from which to explore the region. Precariously placed atop a cliff and standing over 900 metres above the valley, the Taktshang Goempa Temple is around 10kms from Paro. The original structure dates back to1692 and was built on the site which is believed to be where Padmasambhava, who introduced Buddhism to the country, is said to have meditated in a cave. It features four temples and a number of caves and is still used as a site for meditation by monks.
