Cat Museum Kuching
The Kuching Cat Museum

Malaysia has always been a tourist favourite. People from all over the world make their way here all year around. Apart from the vibrant city there are also plenty of other things to do around here. One of the places to check out when here is Kuching. Known to be one of Borneo’s most sophisticated cities, Kuching has a wide array of things to offer its visitors. Taking accommodation in Kuching into account, a growing number of people in the recent past have opted to stay at a service apartment in Kuching, mainly due to their convenience factor. An ideal choice in this regard is Citadines Uplands Kuching. Located in one of the prime administrative locations in Eastern Malaysia, the apartment complex makes for a great base from which to head on your adventures.

While in Kuching there are some things that may interest the tourist. One such place to visit is the Cat Museum. Being the world’s first Cat Museum, this is any cat lover’s paradise. Located in the strange UFO shaped building the DBKU, it is regarded as a top tourist attraction in the city. The Kuching city translates as the ‘Cat City’ in Malay. It is therefore no surprise that it is home to the cat museum. Most Malays also believe that cats bring good luck. The museum as well as various statues around the city were erected in order to celebrate the city’s name as well as to celebrate the role of cats in people’s everyday life. The doors to the museum opened in 1993. There are around two thousand displays at the museum and more over it also performs as a research centre to carry out research based on the history as well as beliefs associated with cats. There are some displays belonging to the Egyptian times such as the mummified cat as well as the display of the rarest cat in the world, Felis badia.
