Dubai is one of the world’s most famous luxury playgrounds and whether you enter its glittering cityscape for the pursuit of business, pleasure, or a mix of the two, your senses are guaranteed titillation beyond measure. Sumptuous luxury is the order of the day, as you will discover when you tour the Burj Khalifa area.
Within the artificial, yet no less scenic, Burj Khalifa Lake, you will discover a musical monument to rival all others – mainly on account of the fact that it is the world’s largest musical fountain set-up. It was brought to life by the same company, the California-based WET, which was the genius behind the iconic Bellagio water fountain that has graced just about every Vegas-based Hollywood flick to emblazon the silver screen.
Be treated to a stunning spectacle courtesy of 6,000 lights and 25 projectors emanating wide bands of colour that coalesce to present a state-of-the-art entertainment visual that is truly unrivalled elsewhere around the globe. Boasting a length of 902 feet (275 metres), you will encounter rhythmic eruptions of water jets that shoot up 500 feet into the Dubai skyline, roughly about the height of your average 45-storey building, accompanied by a range of musical numbers of contemporary, classical, and Arabic music.
The Dubai Fountain can spurt a volume of around 22,000 gallons of water at any one moment. Towards the end of 2010, the fountain acquired a new element, fire, which illumined the fountains with rings of fire during the 2011 New Year’s celebrations. It has been reported that the sky-high beams of light can be witnessed from over twenty miles away, such is their exuberant majesty. The fountain features numerous high-pressure jets and shooters that manipulate the water to effect aquatic ripples, and a myriad water jets that spray water to soaring distances, which create a resounding boom upon release for added effect. Accompanied by as much as 25 colourful projectors, the combinations and patterns created by the water jets are truly vibrant and diverse in execution, making for a delightful foray for all ages.
You can catch the show from the lake promenade and various edifices in the area. Times are 1pm, 1:30pm, and every half hour between 6-10pm on weekdays and 6-11pm during weekends (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday).
