The Thai island of Koh Phangan has for long been the ‘OG’ and premier destination for full moon parties which draw revellers from across the world each month. But now, Phuket (also in Thailand) is ready to take that crown and here’s how to prep, what to expect, and why it’s so epic!

When and Where

The ‘when’ is right there in the name as these parties light up the night on the full moon of each month. It’s held at Paradise Beach near Patong, this spot goes from chill to thrill as soon as the sun dips below the horizon. During the day, it’s a laidback slice of paradise, but on full moon night, let’s just say it transforms like something out of a werewolf movie (minus the fangs, of course!).

Planning Your Party Experience

The party kicks off around 6:00 pm and goes on till the early hours (Pro tip: show up a little later when the energy really ramps up). A free shuttle bus runs from Bangla Road every 30 minutes starting at 6:00 pm, or you can grab a taxi. Staying at Phuket beach villas a bit farther out at spots like Layan is worth considering; properties here like Anantara Layan Phuket Resort offer some quiet beach time after the night’s wild festivities!

What It’s Like

Think top-tier sound systems, electric vibes, and DJs (both Thai and international) spinning beats that will keep you dancing till dawn. Expect fire dancers, live shows, and the iconic “buckets” filled with drinks that are enough to keep the party going. It’s not quite as packed as Koh Phangan’s version, so you have space to let loose and meet fellow partygoers and lycanthropes alike!

More Beach Parties

Can’t make it in time for the next full moon party in Phuket and feeling bummed out? Here’s something to cheer you up; there are other similar parties taking place here throughout the month be it half-moon, new moon, black moon, or even foam parties. So, whether it’s the full moon or just another Tuesday, there’s always a chance to unleash your inner party animal on this idyllic island!
