The modern opulent cities of China overflowing with style and consumerism are a far cry from the low-key days of Mao’s Cultural Revolution. The city of Wuxi despite its historic past is no exception. With the rapid growth of the country’s economy this city has also become more and more westernized with European style bars and pubs mushrooming in certain areas. Located in Jiangsu, Wuxi has earned the name Pearl of the Lake Tai as the city is literally split into two parts by this beautiful body of water.
The economic growth of the city has been spawned by two large industrial parks that are located here. It is currently one of the largest producers of textiles and solar technology in the world. The rapid growth in the economy has also changed the culture of the city, despite it still staying true to its traditional roots. The city was famous for being a hot bed of culture in Jiangsu region and was the home of celebrated Chinese artists such as Chen Chi.
Thus, most of the entertainment options to be found here have a distinctly traditional flavour such as the Baoli Theatre. This showcases traditional Chinese drama and dance, performed by visiting troupes. Traditional art forms in China are renowned for their elaborate costumes and make up which transports the audience into a surreal experience. The traditional Chinese art of tea brewing can be experienced at the many teahouses that are also located within the commercial district.
Most of the bars and clubs in Wuxi are located in the commercial district. This makes it easy for travellers staying in Greater China hotels in this vicinity to gain access to these establishments. Most pubs are filled with expatriates with a smattering of locals. The nightclubs are well patronized during the weekend and young Chinese residents usually head out with much gusto. If partying is not your favourite thing several lounges can also be found in the city; popular hangouts are 1912 Street, BCM Café and Ming Tian Coffee Language. Those looking for accommodation in Wuxi as well as other hotels in China can stay at properties belonging to Millennium & Copthorne Hotels China which can be found throughout the country.
